GES: Navigating the Challenging Waves of SLC

Nestled within a close-knit community, Gibraltar Elementary School (GES) serves as an educational anchor for nearly 500 learners. Committed to holistic development, the school offers a vibrant blend of academic programs and extracurricular and co-curricular activities. This year, the school embraced the challenge of implementing Smart Learning Class(SLC), launched by the Schools Division of Baguio City.

Smart Learning Class wasn’t a one-person show. GES made it work through teamwork! Teachers embraced technology, the school administration helped with resources, and parents cheered on their kids. Teachers, facing new ways of teaching, became tech adventurers, learning together and celebrating each other’s wins. This made a learning hub where classrooms were alive with activities and learners explored personalized paths. Smart Learning Class, with GES behind it, wasn’t just a program; it was a team effort for a brighter digital future!

Right from the beginning, an array of challenges confronted not just the teachers and students but also the school administration. At the outset, the SLC teachers identified transforming a traditional classroom into a smart learning-ready space as the major hurdle. However, it subsequently became apparent that establishing a reliable internet connection emerged as the foremost obstacle hindering the smooth execution of the program. Additionally, there were learners who lacked prior experience in navigating electronic devices.

After successfully overcoming these challenges, the teachers witnessed an overwhelmingly positive response from both the learners and their parents. The implementation of various activities, ranging from watching educational videos to engaging in interactive games, garnered enthusiastic participation.”
